Abdifatah A. Mohamed
About
Abdifatah “Abdi” Mohamed is the founder and managing attorney of Mohamed Zain PLC. His experience includes years as an attorney in both the public and private sectors. He has worked as a Senior Investigator with the City of Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights where he investigated and mediated complex discrimination cases involving violations of the Minnesota Human Rights Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act and various other federal statutes.
Abdi has previously worked at two large Minneapolis law firms. While there, he gained experience working for large clients such as Best Buy, Target, and local financial institutions. Prior to opening Mohamed Zain PLC, Abdi has worked on cases ranging from toxic tort defense to bankruptcy to commercial litigation. He now focuses his practice on small business law, nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations, internal investigations. He is also a Rule 114 qualified neutral and uses his training to mediate a wide range of disputes.
Abdi is a graduate of the University of Washington and Mitchell Hamline School of Law where he represented his school at the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court competition and served as an editor at a student run law journal where he had an article published.
His extensive volunteer and community engagements include previously serving as the President of the Somali American Bar Association (SABA) and being board member of the Ramsey County Bar Association. As the president of SABA and in his role within the Ramsey County Bar Association, he worked to create access to the legal community for Minnesota’s large Somali American population. Abdi is also an active member in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party where he once served on the DFL Lawyer’s Steering Committee. He currently serves as a volunteer attorney with The Advocates for Human Rights where he assists clients with asylum cases.
When he’s not practicing law, Abdi loves teaching it. Abdi works as an Adjunct Professor of Law where he teaches first-year legal writing at the University of Minnesota Law School.
